Derek Jeter reaches 3,000 hits – the first Yankee to reach that milestone!

The Sport Report Milestone Alert:

Yesterday July 9th Derek Jeter (the Yankees starting shortstop) reached a career milestone by getting 3000 career hits. He is the first Yankee to achieve that goal and is the 28th player in baseball history to do so. And there is a long list of Yankees players who have made it to the hall of fame, who have not achieved this goal. That is a great goal to achieve as an MLB player and it will surely give you an easy trip to the hall of fame!

In Derek’s first at-bat he got a single up the middle. In his second at-bat, he hit a solo home run to earn his career mark of 3,000 hits. There is no better way to beat a record like that, especially on your home course. (Yankees Stadium) The fan who caught the ball even immediately returned it to Derek Jeter after the game. Instead of holding on to the ball and selling it. You have to be a really dedicated fan to do that because he probably would have kept it and then sold it.

Derek had an amazing game. Not only did he break the milestone, he also had some decisive shots to help his team win and went 5 for 5. (5 shots) It was Derek’s day and nothing was going to stop him. The Yankees ended up winning the game against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. The Devil Rays are also in the Yankees division, which helped them get a bigger lead in the division/wild card race they are fighting for.

With all the talk of Derek Jeter’s injury going on; people probably doubt that he has health problems after this game.

Some other achievements of Derek Jeter in his career are:

12-time American League All-Star

5 American League Gold Glove Award (shortstop)

USA Today High School Player of the Year

All-Star Game Most Valuable Player Award

World Series MVP Award

Derek has a lot of other minor accomplishments as well, but these are the main ones he has in MLB. Derek is an amazing baseball player and people wonder if he will ever reach the 4000 hit milestone. I think he will have to play 5-8 more seasons and get about 150 hits a season. Even if he hits the 3500 hit mark, he’ll be amazing. Very few baseball players have ever done that.
