CEUs Work For Nurses
CEUs (continuing education units) are important for nurses because they are necessary to stay up-to-date on changes in the health field. CEU courses are offered in a variety of formats, including conference workshops, webinars, and self-paced packets. Some states require specific topics to be covered for CEUs, but the rest of the hours are up to the individual nurse.

How Do CEUs Work For Nurses?
The benefits of CEUs for nurses include the fact that they’re cheaper than in-person courses. Some providers offer online courses for as little as $50. You can also complete these courses whenever you have free time. This is especially beneficial for nurses with busy schedules. Furthermore, online courses allow you to study without distractions.
CEs are required for nurses to stay up-to-date with changes in the healthcare field. Continuing education requirements depend on the type of nursing practice, and some states do not require CEUs. However, many nursing boards define the number of CEUs a nurse must earn in order to remain licensed. Most states require nurses to earn CEs every two years.
RNs who have an employer-verified practice must complete at least 5 hours of approved CE to renew their license. However, LPNs are exempt from CE requirements for the first renewal period. Afterwards, they must earn enough CEs to maintain their license for at least three years.
APRNs who wish to renew their license must maintain certification. If they lapse in certification, they lose their authorization. If they fail to renew their license, they must apply for reinstatement. If they are chosen for an audit, they will have to submit at least 2 cycles of CE certificates to the Board.
Upon renewal, nurses must hold copies of their license and certificate for two to three years. Some states require nurses to keep their certificates for longer. Depending on the state’s regulations, this can be as long as four years. If you fail to renew your license within the period of your license renewal, you could risk losing your license entirely.
Every two years, nurses must take at least 20 hours of continuing education for renewal. If they’re renewing their license for the first time in three years, they must complete an additional 12 hours of CEUs. In addition, they must obtain a national nursing certification.
