How long do West Highland White Terriers or Westies live?

By admin Sep13,2021

How long do Westies live? I went for a walk with my son Jonathan and Pepper, our Westie dog, along the seashore where we live. I met a neighbor named John who I hadn’t seen in a long time. I was very surprised to see him just because he has a black lab and the 2 are inseparable.

Naturally, I asked him about Barney and he lowered his face. I knew something was terribly wrong. His response was that he had to leave Barney because he had developed cancer and it had come on very quickly. He did not want his friend to suffer.

I told John I was really sorry. I knew he meant it like all dog lovers. After all, it is the passing of a member of your family. Those who do not have dogs cannot understand and I feel that they are the losers of so much love and loyalty.

The news hurt Jonathan because he always played with Barney and made such a fuss about him.

It made me wonder how long our Pepper would live. The Westie in general should live for around 15 years if he is likely to take care of himself and also if no serious health problems arise.

She is 6 years old now and I still can’t believe she’s that old. Maybe it’s a sign that I’m getting older, because my kids seemed to have grown up in the blink of an eye.

I give Pepper a big hug when I get home and she also got a couple of extra treats. I don’t want to take it for granted and you will monitor your health checks with proper West Highland Terrier grooming. He always looks like a puppy again, every time he comes back from the groomer. I also have to start building the Westie photos again.

So for all you dog lovers, remember to give your pet a hug today.
