A good place to start is your local Chamber of Commerce or Convention and Visitors Bureau. To find these local guides on the web, I like to browse the regional Yahoo directory. I select Regional in the Yahoo Web Directory and navigate to my metropolitan area.
Local newspapers also frequently include an online event calendar. Some of them allow you to sign up to receive weekly email notifications. If you don’t already know the website addresses of your local newspapers, an easy way to find them is in the Yahoo Regional Directory. Find your location and all your local newspapers online will be neatly listed in one place.
Online travel guides are also an excellent source of information. To find these travel guides, just do a search on the name of the location and the word “events” and you are likely to get millions of views. These sites often include movie times, food guides, and other categories in addition to scheduled events. Most of them allow you to search by category, such as family or nightlife, as well as by date range.
