How to erect a concrete column

Concrete columns are used to carry loads in a building. They transfer it to a suitable bearing capacity of the ground. They carry loads horizontally, vertically and laterally. They can be erected independently and are used for hanging doors. Alternatively, they can be incorporated within the walls of a building structure. The concrete columns are made of steel and concrete cast into a formwork. These are made in circular, rectangular or square shapes.

When erecting concrete columns, the load to be transported is considered. This determines the size of the column and the type of reinforcement to use. The erection process begins by laying a foundation. First, a pit is dug to a suitable depth of soil bearing capacity. Well blinding is done to protect the soil that touches the steel reinforcements. When the base is cast, the steel is exposed. This reinforcement is used as starting bars for the column.

The formwork work of the required column size is first formed to one side. The already tied steel is attached together with the starter bars. This ensures that the spine starts from the ground up. The steel must be free of oil and rust. Use tie wire to join all the steel. It is important to pour concrete in elevators. This should not exceed two thousand five hundred millimeters in height. When the steel work is completed, the assembly of the formwork begins.

The formwork for erecting a column is fixed by opening the sides. Then he slid down to get the steel inside the box. Once the box is upright, the formwork is clamped and supported on all sides. The concrete is then poured and vibrated until it reaches the top of the box. It is left for seven days. Curing is done from the top. After seven days, the formwork is removed to expose the plaster column. This heals continuously for another seven days.
