If you have time, start reading something other than “graphic novels.” Get useful information to your credit. Not just about taking down an AK-47, but about what makes people tick, because once the apocalypse is upon us, Google won’t save your butt.
That’s right, dummy, no more internet. If it’s not gone yet, it will be in no time.
Hopefully, you are ahead of the game because you have this book in your hands. Take some training courses ASAP (First Aid, CPR, Basic Weapons, Wilderness Survival) or start reading the recommended reading list at the end.
Also, and you may not expect it, you better get yourself something to believe in or at least to think about during those long dark nights of the soul. I’m not talking about religion necessarily, but if that’s your thing, great.
I like this old Roman named Seneca. He said it’s easy to be a self-righteous guy if you never leave the house. Walk out the front door? Someone will ruin your day. I put a collection of Seneca letters in my travel bag. I figured it would be company when I was hiding somewhere.
Think about it. The day will come when a book will be your best friend, even if you haven’t read one in 20 years, and I’m not just talking about a survival manual like this.
Sooner or later, you will need something to remind you that you are still human and give you a reason to keep surviving.
We are talking about post apocalypse now. You may not have voluntarily entered one from the study room, but libraries are good. People have been teaching other people how to make things in print for generations and there are a lot of good stories out there. A book can be a lot of company, man. Don’t discount the idea just because you hated school.
You already know that you have a lot to learn. Find the educational materials you need, and the entertainment, because guess what?
If there is a Zombie Pride parade on the street in front of your house, you have paid your last electricity bill. Your favorite search engine is no longer an option at all.
It’s a shame to go back to the stone age. Or is that it? I don’t know, maybe it wouldn’t be so important if it weren’t for all these zombies running around!
