The magic of Asheville and the mountains of North Carolina

The city of Asheville may be smaller than some metropolitan areas, however, like larger cities like Atlanta, New York City, San Francisco, and Seattle, Asheville can be divided into several sections, each with their own interesting advantages. North Asheville has always been a popular section of the city. Since the heyday of the Vanderbilt family in the 1920s, North Asheville has been a place for artists, professionals, socialites, writers and celebrities to gather and live life to the fullest. One of the most famous examples of this is the internationally renowned Grove Park Inn.

Advantages of Buying Property in North Asheville

University of North Carolina-Asheville (UNCA)

One of the biggest advantages of North Asheville is its proximity to UNCA, a fantastic university located in the heart of Asheville. The UNCA campus is not only an excellent university, but is also a popular venue for many music and arts events throughout the year. In good weather, concerts take place both in the university’s many auditoriums and outdoors. There are many trails and paths to explore on campus, as well as exquisite mountain views to behold.

Development of Botanical Gardens and Greenways

Located on the edge of the UNCA campus, the Asheville Botanical Garden is a special sanctuary in the midst of North Asheville. Strolling through the grounds of the Botanical Garden allows you to learn about the native plants, as well as enjoy the sounds of birds, insects, and the creek. Have a picnic in the meadow or visit the gazebo. There are flowers, trees, and herbs of all kinds to explore. Additionally, Asheville is currently in the process of completing a greenway that runs from UNCA and the Botanical Gardens to the heart of downtown. Bike, jog or walk the trails along the edge of the historic Montford neighborhood. Leaving vehicles at home will be a more attractive option for students and other local residents once the greenway is built.

Merrimon Avenue offers convenient shopping and dining

Merrimon Avenue is the main thoroughfare in North Asheville and is home to many shops, restaurants, retail stores, drug stores and more. A post office, several grocery stores, Asheville Pizza and Brew Company (an area staple), and much more can be found just a couple of miles from downtown. Everything from McDonald’s to sushi to Mexican cuisine to Southern-style home cooking can be found at Merrimon.

Beaverdam Lake District

Travel north to the small community of Woodfin and you will pass Beaverdam Lake. The Beaverdam neighborhood is a quaint community nestled along the edge of the lake. Boating, all walking trails and the bird sanctuary located at the southernmost point of the lake are available to residents. During the warmer months, local residents can be seen boating, jogging, hiking, and enjoying the mountain weather with family, friends, and pets. An exciting new addition to the neighborhood, just down the street from Beaverdam Lake, is the new YMCA, built at the base of the Reynold’s Mountain community. This new facility helps North Asheville residents avoid traffic and save time.

Real Estate and Economic Development at Woodfin

Woodfin is a small township located north of Asheville and south of Weaverville. Over the last five years, Woodfin has started to grow. New businesses have opened and steadily more affordable real estate prices have made it a destination for first-time homebuyers. In the next decade, Woodfin Township plans to complete major residential and commercial development. Woodfin is on its way to becoming a beautiful and welcoming community that attracts professionals, families, and new homebuyers moving to the Asheville area.

Weaverville NC – a quaint, tight-knit community just 10 minutes from downtown Asheville

Just north of Asheville, just 3 freeway exits, is Weaverville, a small town with a great reputation for its tight-knit community, amazing local arts, delicious local restaurants, and unique retail stores. If you want a snapshot of what Asheville once was, downtown Weaverville is worth a visit. Main Street is home to multiple local businesses and makes you feel like you’re in a simple, rural mountain town. Easy freeway access makes commuting to work simple and proximity to Walmart, Lowes, grocery stores, and other retailers make it convenient to stay local.

North Asheville is just one section of this beautiful mountain city. East, South and West Asheville also offer unique advantages to prospective homebuyers and have their own rich history. Be sure to hire a real estate agent who can show you around the city and help you make the best real estate decision for your lifestyle.
